'Harry Potter' Director, Writer To Adapt 'The Stand'

Director David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves are 'the right team' to bring Stephen King's novel to the screen, expert tells MTV News.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Wigler

Hot off the success of the "Harry Potter" franchise, director David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves are teaming up again to adapt another major literary property: Stephen King's "The Stand," for Warner Bros.

For the uninitiated, "The Stand" is a post-apocalyptic novel that follows a group of survivors after 99.4 percent of the human race is wiped out by the effects of a biological weapon. The remaining survivors break off into two camps, one based in Boulder, Colorado, which represents good, and the other in Las Vegas, which represents evil. The two camps eventually face off in a stand that determines the future of mankind.

When it comes to bringing a beloved novel to the big screen, Yates and Kloves certainly seem like the go-to pair, but "The Stand" is a different beast than "Harry Potter" in many ways. For one, the adult-oriented material is much darker than "Potter." Drew McWeeny of HitFix, who broke the news, told MTV News he thinks the way Yates and Kloves treated the darker aspects of the "Potter" movies is a mark in their favor as they gear up for the "Stand" collaboration.

"I think they've demonstrated as a team that they are capable of making extreme darkness palatable and ably depicting the struggle between good and evil," McWeeny said. "It might not have been the first team I thought of to adapt that book, but it's a damn good team."

MTV Movies Blog editor and "The Stand" fan Josh Wigler doesn't think the movie can be made with anything less than an R rating. Similarly, McWeeny said the film won't be an easy project for Warner Bros. to move through the studio.

When McWeeny first broke the story, he said it didn't make sense to bring "The Stand" to the screen again if it didn't expand upon the 1994 TV miniseries — and he offered that the new element should be the very disturbing material that made the novel a hit.

The novel, which features a massive cast of characters, is divided into three "books," and the assumption is that Yates and Kloves wouldn't attempt to adapt the story into just one movie. The larger question is whether Warner Bros. would make two movies or a trilogy out of "The Stand." McWeeny thinks it could go either way.

"I've been hearing that three is the magic number, creatively, and they want a trilogy," he said. "[But] two films may just make better economic sense for them. I do think there's a way to pull it off in two films, but that's when you really start cutting this to the bone and that may not be best for the story itself."

With Universal having passed on Ron Howard's ambitious attempt to adapt another King classic, "The Dark Tower," it seems fair to presume that Yates and Kloves may worry about making "The Stand" too big. But there are many elements of "The Stand" that make it more adaptable than "Dark Tower" ever was, McWeeny said.

"Even though ['The Stand' is] very big and has a ton of characters, there is a much more linear storytelling shape, and a simple film trilogy is something that Hollywood understands," he explained. "Coming off the final 'Potter' film, I think Yates and Kloves are the right team to get almost anything made."

'Glee' Stars Nominate Castmates 'Most Likely To' Date Fans, More

Before 'Glee: The 3D Concert Movie' opens, McKinley High's finest tell MTV News how they'd dole out our superlatives.
By Kara Warner

When presented the excellent opportunity to interact with a cast of characters as fun and free-spirited as the cast of "Glee" and, more specifically, "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie," it is not to be wasted by asking generic interview questions like "Why do you love this role?" or "Why should people see this movie?"

Instead, MTV News first had the "Glee" cast give us a musical preview of the film's story line. Following those melodic results, we put together a list of rapid-fire superlative-style questions, which required stars Lea Michele, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Jenna Ushkowitz, Cory Monteith, Dianna Agron, Naya Rivera, Mark Salling, Ashley Fink, Darren Criss, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale and Harry Shum Jr. to decide which of their castmates deserved a series of "Most Likely to ..." titles. If you've ever wondered which actor is most likely to mess up choreography or date a fan, we've got your answers!

Read on (and click the embedded video) for the cast's candid responses, as well as adorable moments featuring the cast cracking one another up with lightning-quick answers.

Most Likely To Screw Up Choreography
Honorable mentions: Mark Salling (1 vote), Cory Monteith (4)

Winner: Chord Overstreet takes this category with seven Most Likely to Slip Up nods from his fellow castmembers.

Most Likely to Date a Fan
Winner: Mark Salling, who all but swept this one, save for the one vote Fink cast for herself in the category. Salling's reaction upon learning he was the clear choice?

"Me? Oh, hell no."

Mostly Likely to Join "Jersey Shore" Cast
Honorable mentions: Salling and Riley each received one vote.

Runner-up: Lea Michele

Winner: Naya Rivera

"Naya," Michele said. "But she's not Italian, and I'm Italian," she added with a smile and hint of the familiar accent.

"She'd bring some serious 'tude [to the show]," Criss said.

Biggest Flirt
Honorable mention: "Matthew Morrison," Fink said.

"Yeah," Criss agreed, "He flirts with me all the time."

"Matt is the flirtiest human I've ever met," Fink assured us.

Winner: Cory Monteith

"Yay!" Monteith said when he heard he was the front-runner in the category. "I guess? Hey, how you doing?" he said with a naughty smile.

Best Game
Honorable mentions: Monteith and Kevin McHale

Winner: "Darren Criss," Michele said with authority. "Darren Criss. Let me tell you something, he'll be like, 'See that girl over there?' And he will go over, and then a couple minutes later, you'll see her from afar and she'll be like, [demonstrates a shy smile that grows into a wide, enamored grin]."

"Me?" Criss said, appearing shocked, when he heard he'd been praised for his lady-killing skills. "I don't know about that," he said. "[But] I'll take it."

Sean Kingston "Feels Good" After His Accident

After being critically injured in a Jet Ski accident, Sean Kingston made his first appearance back on the red carpet at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards. "I feel good, I feel happy," he tells In Touch. "It?s a blessing!"

The singer made a full recovery from the near-fatal May 29 crash, defying the odds. "You basically have to count your blessings," Sean revealed about what he's learned from the accident. "Life is short."

Sean seemed happy to hand his best friend Justin Bieber a coveted surf board award at the show, especially after all that he did for Sean. "Justin has been there since the day I came out of the hospital," he shares. "He is definitely a great and loyal friend."

Jedward admit they don?t do sex, world unsurprised?

No, no, no, no Jedward should not be talking about sex, it?s weird and strange and it?s just plain wrong.

Except that it?s not because the boys are actually 19 and should be bags of raging testosterone right now ? they?re obviously not though and still feel massively awkward talking about sex, even to each other.

"Even though we're from Ireland, sex between us is a taboo? said John Grimes, giving us all horrible, unintended mental images.

Nevertheless John seems perfectly happy to chat about kissing though; talking about his first snog with a girl (yes, a girl) he said:

"I was walking with her, suddenly she stopped and wrapped her arms around me. I felt her heart flutter, we stared at each other in shock, then we kissed."

How romantic.

Meanwhile the boys were in Belfast earlier today signing copies of their album in HMV. One girl showed the twins a new tattoo she?d had done of their album name ?Victory? just below her boob ? shockingly Jedward didn?t seem that interested in looking at it.

We think we know why Miley Cyrus looks so pleased with herself?

No, not because she?s just reached two million followers on Twitter (although that is pretty impressive), actually the singer was doing this victorious gesture in LA yesterday because she was on her way to a ?swag bag? party along with a number of other Hollywood celebs.

And what?s a swag bag party you ask? Well it?s basically a get together where big brands giveaway their latest items to celebrities.

That?s right they just give them stuff. You know ror free, simply because they?re famous.

As if they didn?t have enough going for them already *sighs*

CC Sabathia Teams Up With Pepsi Max's Field Of Dreams

ccsabath1_wide.jpg
Imagine you and your friends form a team next spring to play a baseball game in your hometown. The opposing team: Rickey Henderson, Ken Griffey Jr., Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken Jr., Reggie Jackson and Mike Schmidt. Someone is about to become the most popular person in his or her community! From now through August 31, baseball fans across the country can cast votes at MLB.com for their favorite players at each position. For each ballot cast, fans will be entered to win the chance to take on the winning Pepsi MAX Field of Dreams Team on their home turf next spring.

?It?s pretty cool, having a chance to have 11 of these guys come out and play in the community, and have these fans get involved,? New York Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia tells In Touch. ?I know these guys are excited about getting a chance to get voted on.?

But you do have some challenging decisions to overcome along the way, as the ballot is filled with 30 living Major League Baseball greats, many of them Hall of Famers. For CC, his pick of Randy Johnson as pitcher seemed to be a no-brainer. ?He was one of my favorite players growing up, he?s a lefty, and he?s from the Bay Area, like I am. He?s probably one of the best pitchers ever,? CC says. ?That list is unbelievable, those guys are all great players. Hopefully one day I can get on that list.?

The idea doesn?t seem too outlandish for the Cy Young Award recipient, who has led or tied for the American League lead in wins in each of the past two seasons and is currently tied for first with 16 wins. Yet the pitcher remains humble, sharing that the most memorable moment of the season for him was watching fellow teammate Derek Jeter join the 3,000 hits club. ?To watch him go through it? if you wrote that up, people wouldn?t watch it!? CC jokes.

And the most important message he hopes to send to fans? Just keep up the support. ?I love the fans here in New York. There's nothing like the fans in the Bronx and the energy they give us every night.?

Rihanna Opens Up About Her 'Battleship' Role

'I didn't know what I was doing,' she says of first foray into acting.
By Jocelyn Vena

Rihanna on the set of "Battleship"

Rihanna certainly knows a thing or two about military couture; anyone who has seen her "Hard" video knows that. But in "Battleship," her fatigues are anything but high-end. In a chat with UGO.com, the singer opens up about her butt-kicking role as Raikes, saying that her character knows nothing about the glamorous things in life, only the dangerous things.

"It's really cool, it's easy. You don't have to think about what you want to put on, or how cute you look," she says of wearing the uniform in the Peter Berg-directed action flick. "She doesn't like boys. She doesn't like girls either. She's just about her weapons and her work."

Rihanna has always had a tough-girl persona, so when it came time to make her film debut, she knew that this girl was the right one to play. And she made sure she did her research. "We worked with real military people, you know, people in the Navy, people who have fought in Iraq before. They pretty much came and drilled me. This one man, Donald, he pretty much drilled me, yelled at me, cursed me, 'Ow!' Made me do pushups. Everything," she recalled. "Like, my best friend was there the second time we worked together, and I said to her, 'OK, I'm about to do acting class, but you're going to want to kill this man, so just stay in the bedroom. Don't listen to anything he's saying to me right now, just don't kill him, Melissa, just stay in the bedroom.'

"And I remember she just kept walking around, and she would just glance at me, 'Are you OK? Did he just say 'f--- you' to you?' But I mean, it really got you in the mentality, that's the things they really go through, you know, when they first sign up," she continued. "It's not a walk in the park."

Her first encounter with Berg was equally jarring — Rihanna describes the sequence of events as "weird." "And [Peter Berg] just walked out and said, 'Hi, come in,' and I'm like, 'Where is Christa, my manager? Where is my manager?' She wasn't there, and I walked in and all I saw were these little alien mock-ups, these little dolls. And he just started saying, 'Yeah, these are the thugs, he's a thug,' " she said of the meeting. "I laughed and then I realized that he wasn't laughing, and I was like, 'This is weird. Why are there pictures of aliens all over this room?'

"And it was just crazy because he was just really super enthusiastic about it, and he was so sure that I could pull it off and I didn't even know that he was the director of the film, I didn't know anything," she added. "I didn't know what I was doing, where I was going, why."

Check out everything we've got on "Battleship."

Emma Watson 'Perfect' For 'Beauty And The Beast'

Guillermo del Toro tells MTV News he'd rather direct the retelling than just produce.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Guillermo del Toro

The pairing of Guillermo del Toro and Emma Watson on a "Beauty and the Beast" remake seems almost too good to be true, but the director confirmed to MTV News that the project is indeed in the works.

"It's one of those landmarks, one of those holy grails, and I really hope to do it," del Toro said. "We're just starting the process."

Originally, it was reported that del Toro would be producing the flick alongside "Crazy, Stupid, Love" producer Denise Di Novi, but he shared with MTV News that he would rather direct the movie. He said he's starting to write the story line for it now while putting his alien movie "Pacific Rim" through production.

Instead of a modernized take like this year's "Beastly," consider del Toro's movie to be a classic retelling of the tale as old as time. He confirmed that his version will take place in the same period setting as the fairy tale; we're hoping that means it will include some of the stylized visuals he's become known for with "Pan's Labyrinth" and the "Hellboy" movies.

Del Toro didn't have a timeline yet for when his first draft on "Beauty and the Beast" would be done, but he said it should be within the next few years. After all, he'd need it to be done by then for leading lady Watson to still be a prime choice for the role of the titular beauty.

"It's a movie that you have to make in the next few years for Emma to be perfect for the part," he said. "I think she is the perfect character to do that movie."

Watson recently wrapped filming on "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and, barring her potential involvement in Taylor Lautner's "Incarceron," has a free schedule for now.

Cheryl?s landed a part in Hollywood film?

While Cheryl Cole was in Cannes a few months back (you know, before the whole X Factor USA drama kicked off) you may recall that she had a meeting with lots of Hollywood bigwigs about a possible film role.

Well, it looks as though that meeting went quite well really because that?s exactly what young Chezza?s been given.

And it doesn?t sound like the role will require much acting either; apparently she?ll have a bit part in a flick playing a talent show judge on a programme very much like X Factor. She?ll be ?judging? Cameron Diaz?s character in the film, which is called What To Expect When You?re Expecting and also stars Jennifer Lopez. A source blabbed today:

?This is a bit of fun for Cheryl. She will film the scenes imminently and is really looking forward to it.

?It doesn?t mean she suddenly wants to become actress. It was just an opportunity that has come up while she has been having some down time and she thought it would be great fun to take part.?

It?s thought that the singer will film her scenes for the movie in LA later this month.

'Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas' Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Third installment of the stoner-comedy franchise has something to do with the holidays ... and we sniff out a few other details.
By Eric Ditzian

Kal Penn and John Cho in "A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas"
Photo: New Line Cinema

In a way, "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas" is the most high-concept installment in the stoner-comedy franchise. The titles of both "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" and "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" told you everything you needed to know about the films. But the latest addition? Well, it's in 3-D and has something to do with the holiday season, yet it can all get a little confusing for the series' munchies-having, navel-gazing fanbase.

The first "3D Christmas" trailer, which hit Yahoo! on Wednesday evening, should clear up most of that duuuuude-what's-it-all-about confusion. And MTV News' picks for the five key scenes should wipe away any remaining brain fog.

The Santa Formula
The witty tweaking of clichés has been at the heart of what this franchise is all about. After years of derivative stoner comedies, many with premises thinner than a tab of LSD, "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" took the formula to its storytelling extreme — what if we make a movie about two dudes trying to get some hamburgers? — and wound up delivering not only a funny movie, but one that breathed new, smart and ridiculous life into what had become a hackneyed subgenre. "3D Christmas," which hits theaters in November, turns its postmodern attention to the holiday movies, as we see in this scene of Harold accidently shooting Santa in the face. How many Christmas movies will the new movie riff on? We smell the heady scent of a future college-dorm-room party game.

The Comedy Equation
If the big picture of the franchise has been devoted to undercutting cinematic clichés, the undercurrent running through so many individual scenes has been the filmmakers' quest to identify and explode stereotypes. Race, religion, sexuality — it's all been roped into laugh lines, sometimes with less success than others (see "Escape from Guantanamo Bay"). The third film in the series keeps the fearless tradition going, as in one scene where Kumar is rejected by a lovely lady with the line, "Sorry, I don't date black guys."

Claymazing!
But hey, perhaps we're being a bit too high-minded. The franchise can also be enjoyed (when it's enjoyable) as a straightforward, drug-addled buddy comedy. In "3D Christmas," the two friends are still getting' high and gettin' into trouble, as when they mistakenly get a toddler stoned or, in this scene, when they're dosed with a hallucinogen. Cue one of the more creative visual representations of the drug experience in recent memory: Harold and Kumar become claymation figurines. It's a fun, unexpected moment, which makes us think filmmakers should have held the scene back so it'd be fresh (and fun and unexpected) in theaters.

"Avatarted"
The new movie clearly wants to have its three-dimensional cake and eat it too, as Harold asks at one point in the trailer, "Hasn't the whole 3-D thing jumped the shark by now?" The answer, delivered by a TV salesman, is that the movie makes "Avatar" look "Avatarted." He's probably right. "Avatar" director James Cameron's approach to 3-D is to use the technology to create depth, as if in looking at the screen you're looking through a window. "3D Christmas" takes the opposite approach, hurling things (eggs, the Pope's tooth) out at the audience in a manner that has become less favored among filmmakers. Though not entirely. Hey, that in-your-face approach worked for "Jackass 3D."

NPH
There was a time when Neil Patrick Harris probably thought he'd forever be remembered as a super-smart teen doctor named Doogie. But his turn in "Go to White Castle" changed all that, launching the actor's professional second act. Now, NPH might host award shows and star in a hit network comedy, but he continues to pay respect to the raunchy franchise that resurrected his career. Ignore the fact, as NPH himself does, that he was shot and seemingly killed in "Escape from Guantanamo Bay." What's important is that he's back and ridiculous as ever. The same might well be said of "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas."

Check out everything we've got on "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas."

Demi Moore's Fashion Influences? Her Daughters!

DemiMoore.jpg
Who is the new face of Ann Taylor, you ask? It's 48-year-old ageless beauty, Demi Moore, who says she's loved the brand since she was a kid, appreciating the "workout to work to weekend" aesthetic.

Following in the footsteps of Katie Holmes and Naomi Watts, Demi is another wise choice for Ann Taylor because both marry the "classic with a twist" vibe ? a style Demi says her three daughters (Rumer, 22, Scout, 20 and Tallulah, 17) helped her hone. "There are things I might wear with flats that they would put with heels," explains the star, adding, "They definitely stay at a kind of cutting edge because they're still in that experimental stage, which is important...We have to remember that it's okay to take risks."

Ah, spoken like a true fashionista (not-to-mention, one totally cool mom)!

Kim Kardashian?s Future In-Laws Aren?t Thrilled About The Wedding

kimwed1_wide.jpg
A wedding should be a happy occasion, something that brings two families together. But Kim Kardashian?s upcoming nuptials to fianc Kris Humphries seem to be having the exact opposite effect: ?The Humphries feel totally left out,? a family insider tells In Touch. ?They feel like they?re being treated like second-class citizens.?

The problem? Kim and her manager/mother, Kris Jenner, haven?t permitted her fianc?s family to offer any feedback about the planning process. As a different source puts it, ?Their opinions are never asked for, or needed.? The Kardashians wouldn?t even let the Humphries help pay for the party, perhaps because they feared that then they?d expect to have some say over the proceedings! ?Kris Humphries? dad is a successful businessman,? the insider reports, ?and he offered to contribute, but he was told, ?Thanks, but no thanks.? ? Instead, E! is paying for most of the wedding, and Kris Jenner is running the show.

It?s gotten so bad, the insider says, that William Humphries even urged his son to rethink rushing into marriage with Kim. ?Kris? dad doesn?t feel like he?s gaining a daughter,? the insider explains. ?He feels like he?s losing a son. He?s scared that the wedding snub might be a sign of things to come.?

'Harry Potter' Star Tom Felton Stays 'Loose' At Teen Choice Awards

'If it's over-prepared ... it's not going to be any good,' he tells MTV News of presenting an award.

The "Harry Potter" series went out in style Sunday night at the Teen Choice Awards, with Tom Felton and Rupert Grint hitting the stage to accept the coveted Choice Summer Movie award.

Felton also presented the Choice Movie Actress award alongside Christopher Mintz-Plasse. As a relative newcomer to the awards-show circuit and first-time Teen Choice Awards presenter, MTV News asked the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" star how much he had prepared for his big day.

"If it's over-prepared, you see sometimes that it's so clearly scripted, and it's not going to be any good," Felton said. "I'm trying to stay loose at the tongue and see what comes out."

Check out hot red carpet photos from the Teen Choice Awards.

Still, he had planned a bit of a skit with Mintz-Plasse to make their presenting duties memorable. When they came out onstage, Mintz-Plasse told Felton that he had a fling with one of the five nominees but had been avoiding her for a while. Felton comforted him by saying that there were five potential winners, so the odds of Mintz-Plasse's lady being chosen were pretty low, but it turns out that winner Cameron Diaz had been the slighted lover all along. After a cute interchange with Mintz-Plasse, Diaz accepted her award.

But that wouldn't be the only time Felton was called up to the microphone that night. He won the Choice Villain award for his work in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," and then he and Grint took the stage to accept the Choice Summer Movie award for the "Potter" cast.

"It's been nearly 11 years since we were cast, so thank you so much for really sharing the journey with us and making these films such a success. None of it would have been possible without you guys," Felton said in his acceptance speech.

The last we saw of Grint and Felton, the man better known as Ron Weasley had crashed the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" premiere wearing a shirt proclaiming his love for Felton. When asked if he was excited to see Grint again at the Teen Choice Awards, Felton had to stop himself from expressing his eagerness.

"Don't — you'll get me started then I'll be gushing," he said with a laugh.

Amy?s father said a whole load of personal possessions including copies of unreleased tracks, her favourite guitar, lyric books and letters, have all disappeared since she died and only 20 people have had access her home.

Those people include family, friends, security and police.

Mitch is quite understandably ?furious? but a source revealed he?s going to ?give whoever has stolen the items a chance to do the right thing and put them back so it doesn?t have to get messy,? but if they fail to do so he won?t hesitate to involve the police.

'Hunger Games' Sequel Set For November 2013

'Catching Fire' is only movie scheduled for 2013 Thanksgiving weekend so far.

Get your fire extinguishers ready, because the world is going to be "Catching Fire" on November 22, 2013.

Lionsgate announced the release date for the second installment in the "Hunger Games" film series Monday (August 8), following two new stills from the first flick hitting the Web. "The Hunger Games" is still in production and is slated for a March 23, 2012, release. "Catching Fire" is the only movie slotted for the prime 2013 Thanksgiving weekend spot.

No word yet on whether "Catching Fire" will maintain Gary Ross as director or whether it will follow "The Twilight Saga" and "Harry Potter" trend of getting new directors for its four installments. But, considering "The Hunger Games" is close to wrapping, the timing of the announcement leads us to assume that Lionsgate is attempting to maintain some continuity from the first movie to the second.

The new photos from "The Hunger Games" show that the cast is well into filming. The first still shows off Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in the middle of the titular Hunger Games. It is a familiar image from the previously released photos, but the "X-Men: First Class" star looks ready for battle with her quiver full of arrows. If you look close enough, you can even see her mockingjay pin peeking out on her jacket.

Photo number two features Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, one of the two leading men in the movie. He looks a bit worse for wear and a lot less concerned than Katniss about the fight to the death he's embroiled in. It appears that this photo takes place about halfway through the movie, after Peeta suffers a serious injury.

According to Elizabeth Banks' interview with ComingSoon.net, there's only about a month of filming left on "The Hunger Games." Banks, who plays Effie Trinket in the series, had nothing but wonderful things to say about the project. "We're really making a provocative movie that's also highly entertaining. It's gonna be fun," Banks said. "It's really great to make something that you know people are excited about and also that you know is gonna deliver. I really think the fans are gonna love it."

'Dirty Dancing' Remake In The Works

'High School Musical' director Kenny Ortega will helm reboot of Patrick Swayze classic.
By Jocelyn Vena

In 1987, Patrick Swayze famously declared, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Now it seems a new generation of moviegoers will get the chance to fall in love with Baby and her coming-of-age story all over again.

"High School Musical" director Kenny Ortega has announced that he will direct a remake of the classic film, which starred Swayze and Jennifer Grey. No cast has been announced, but in a statement to EW.com, Ortega said, "The opportunity to direct 'Dirty Dancing' is like returning home for me. ... Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him. I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can't wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats."

Ortega certainly has the résumé to tackle such a project. He was once attached to the "Footloose" remake before passing on that project. He was behind the "HSM" flicks, helmed "Michael Jackson's This Is It" and back in the day directed movies like "Newsies" and "Hocus Pocus."

For those unfamiliar with the story of "Dirty Dancing," it revolves around Baby (Grey) and her family, who are vacationing in New York's Catskills Mountains. The social politics of the 1960s provide the backdrop as Baby falls in love with the resort's star dancer, Johnny Castle (Swayze). The star-crossed lovers embark on a romance that includes lots of, you guessed it, dancing, dirty and otherwise. The remake will feature music of the time period.

The film's breakthrough track, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" (performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes), recently got updated by the Black Eyed Peas when it was sampled for their song "The Time (Dirty Bit)."

"I think it's crazy the way the world works, because ['Dirty Dancing' star] Jennifer Grey is now on 'Dancing With the Stars,' and for some reason that song kind of meant something to us, because we kind of have had an amazing run. I mean, it just keeps going and it keeps going," Fergie explained to MTV News of the sample's significance.

"And we really feel like we have had the time of our lives together, and it's kind of weird how the world works," she continued about the funky track. "And that song reminds me of [Grey] and 'Dirty Dancing' and that whole time, so it's just, I don't know, it all fit."

Bride-to-be Kim Kardashian pops out for pizza?

While most ladies with a wedding around the corner wouldn?t be seen dead popping out for fast food, but Kim Kardashian isn?t like most ladies.

Yesterday, shortly after we spotted her visiting a beauty salon in Beverly Hills, the soon to be newlywed went to Yum Yum Yoghurt N?Deli to pick up some pizza and a large fizzy drink.

Perhaps she?d worked up an appetite earlier in the day, as rumour has it she recently enlisted the help of a personal trainer to help her get in shape before the big day.

Apparently she?s been doing 60-minute high-intensity, drill sergeant-style workouts, which shock the body into burning 1,000 calories.

'Harry Potter' Star Rupert Grint: What's Next?

'I'm not sure I'm going to miss it,' actor tells MTV News of 'Potter.'
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Rupert Grint
Photo: MTV News

Rupert Grint has always been the comic relief when it comes to the Big Three actors in "Harry Potter," but with the final film opening in theaters Friday (July 15), he is ready to spread his wings and try out some new projects.

"Anything really different, really," Grint replied when MTV News asked him what his plans are next. "Playing the same character for 10 years really does give you this thirst for new things. I'm not sure I'm going to miss it. I am looking forward to this kind of newfound freedom. Just see where it takes me."

He certainly seems to be trying to get away from "Potter" as much as possible. Grint's next project is his anti-war film "Comrade," which began filming March 28 in Norway. Directed by Petter Næss and costarring David Kross, Florian Lukas and Stig Henrik Hoff, the movie tells the story of English and German pilots who are forced to work together to survive the brutal Norwegian winter; it is a very far cry from anything Grint has done in "Potter."

After that, his next project is looking more and more likely to be "Eddie the Eagle," a biopic about British skier Eddie Edwards, the first competitor to represent the U.K. in Olympic ski jumping. Though it still doesn't have a writer or director attached, Grint is optimistic that production will get under way soon.

"It's a story that I really like and it's still in the working yet. I still have faith that it will happen," he told MTV News. "It's been in kind of development for a while, but yeah, hopefully it will come up."

Of all the "Potter" stars, Grint has been the one to have the most big-screen experience. In 2002 he starred in the children's comedy "Thunderpants," then followed it up with 2006's dramedy "Driving Lessons." Somehow he managed to find time over the past few years during his busy "Potter" shooting schedule to squeeze out two 2010 releases as well: "Cherrybomb" and "Wild Target."

And the fans respect him for it. When MTV's Next Movie site ran a recent poll asking readers who they thought would be the most successful "Potter" star, Grint won by a whopping 43 percent. If that doesn't work out, though, he always has a side career as an ice cream man.

'Harry Potter' Star Emma Watson Will Be Back Onscreen Soon

'My Week With Marilyn' and 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' are the first two post-'Potter' projects Watson lined up.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

We hope Emma Watson has already digested her post-"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" brunch. Because now that she's finished the project that virtually defined a decade of her life, the actress has plenty to look forward to.

The 21-year-old starlet did just a few non-"Potter" acting roles during her time with the franchise, only separating herself from Hermione long enough to star in the 2007 BBC film "Ballet Shoes" and lend her voice to 2008's "Tales of Despereaux." Now, she has wrapped her first two post-"Potter" films and is excited for people to see her outside of a "Harry Potter" capacity.

Up first is the Michelle Williams-starring adaptation of "My Week With Marilyn," based on Laurence Olivier's assistant's account of spending time with Marilyn Monroe (Williams) while she was filming "The Prince and the Showgirl." Watson plays a character named Lucy who goes on a few dates with leading man Eddie Redmayne. It's a minor role for a small film (which is slated for release this November), but it's garnering a lot of attention because of Watson's involvement.

"I've seen a trailer for it. It looks pretty amazing," Watson told MTV News at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. "I mean, Michelle is an incredible actress, and Eddie Redmayne is also in it, so he did a great job."

But her upcoming film that's getting the most buzz is the Summit Entertainment adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's coming-of-age novel, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Watson plays Sam, the love interest of main character Charlie (played by Logan Lerman). It wrapped shooting several weeks ago, and Watson told us at the Movie Awards that the expectation was to turn it around and get it released quickly.

"It's so funny because I never thought I'd make another sort of high school-esque movie, and here I am in this coming-of-age, American teen [movie]," she said. "But it's very witty, and it's very funny and it's very moving, so I'm excited."

'Captain America' Is For The Ladies Too, Stars Say

'We do a really good job establishing a romance,' Chris Evans offers as a reason female moviegoers should check out 'The First Avenger.'
By Kara Warner

Generally speaking, a superhero or comic book-based movie can almost guarantee that its fervent fanboy following will show up at the box office come opening day. A more elusive audience to capture with these big, flashy blockbusters are female moviegoers. Not that women don't love superhero movies or read comic books, of course, but they aren't often a studio's target audience.

When MTV News caught up with the stars of "Captain America: The First Avenger" recently, we asked what their film has to offer the lady moviegoers who might not necessarily be as interested in the action and explosions as others.

"I gotta be honest, [compared with] the majority of superhero movies that I've seen, I think we do a really good job establishing a romance," Chris Evans, a.k.a. Cap himself, said. "It's a budding romance, it's early. Steve Rogers hasn't had much experience with women, so the romance they establish is new and fresh, and it doesn't really have a chance to develop," he explained. "I don't want to give too much away, but I will say everything else in the movie aside, the one thing I think they really did right was the romance."

Hayley Atwell, who plays Steve Rogers/ Captain America's love interest Peggy Carter and is one of the only women in the film, agreed with Evans.

"It's got a strong, sincere love story running through it," she said. "Captain America has a sincerity. He's earnest, and there is a vulnerability about him. He's not your typical testosterone-fueled man."

In addition to all the sincere romantic stuff, Sebastian Stan pointed out that there are some superficial reasons for ladies to like the film as well.

"I feel like you can drive a car on Chris' chest, so maybe that?" he said, speaking to Evans' muscle-bound physique, post-superserum. "That might help."
