MTV's Sneak Peek Week kicked off in fine fang-led form Monday night (May 30) with a special sneak preview screening of the highly anticipated vampire horror comedy "Fright Night." The lucky audience members in attendance were not only treated to the screening more than two months ahead of the film's release, but also took part in a lively Q&A session with star Christopher Mintz-Plasse and director Craig Gillespie.

Gillespie's re-telling of the 1985 classic drew gasps and laughs from the crowd, as did the lively repartee between Mintz-Plasse and Gillespie during the post-screening conversation.

"I thought it was great," attendee Jessi Lederer told MTV News. "It was funny and frightening and the 3-D was actually really cool. It was the perfect amount of everything. I thought it was great."

Dominic Ceroni agreed with Lederer's sentiments."Going into it, I thought it wasn't going to be very good, since there are so many remakes these days," he admitted. "I went into it with low expectations and it far exceeded them. Chris [Mintz-Plasse] is a sexy vampire; I'm not gonna lie," he said with a wink.

"I really liked it," added Bobby Graham. "I liked a lot of the dialogue. You could tell where they improv'd a little. The actors had great chemistry together," he said. "I will definitely go to see it again in theaters, and I'm definiteley going to be bragging about this for the next two months."

The film stars Colin Farrell as a bloodthirsty vampire who heads to suburbia and terrorizes his next-door neighbor Charlie, played by "Star Trek" veteran Anton Yelchin. Mintz-Plasse plays vampire convert "Evil" Ed Thompson; "Harry Potter" alum and former "Doctor Who" David Tennant is vamp-hunting showman Peter Vincent; and "Solitary Man" breakout Imogen Poots portrays love interest Amy, with Toni Collette and Dave Franco also popping up.

Mintz-Plasse, Gillespie and "Fright Night" are just the beginning of our lead into the Movie Awards. The five-day mini film fest is a week of special screenings designed to keep building the excitement for our annual, unpredictable and always-entertaining event.

Tuesday's screening is "The Art of Getting By," followed by a Q&A with stars Emma Roberts, Elizabeth Reaser, Michael Angarano and director Gavin Wiesen. Wednesday night, we'll screen "Horrible Bosses," with Jason Bateman and director Seth Gordon. Thursday night is "The Help," with Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard, and Friday is "30 Minutes or Less" with Aziz Ansari, Michael Pena and Ruben Fleischer.

Will vampires and werewolves own the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Can wizards or dream thieves steal the Golden Popcorn? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Sneak Peek Week, starting May 30, is five days of exclusives and interviews with the casts of "Fright Night," "Horrible Bosses" and more. Check out everything there is to know about Sneak Peek Week and the Movie Awards at MovieAwards.MTV.com!

'Fright Night' Star Liked Playing 'Something Evil, Dark'

Christopher Mintz-Plasse speaks after MTV Sneak Peek Week screening.

At MTV's first official Sneak Peek Week movie Monday night (May 30), a group of lucky filmgoers were treated to a special preview screening of "Fright Night," Craig Gillespie's re-vamped telling (pun intended) of the 1985 horror comedy classic, starring Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

During the post-screening Q&A, special guests Mintz-Plasse and director Gillespie addressed the seemingly ever-present question of why and how vampires are so popular these days. "There's always vampires," Gillespie said. "Over the last couple of decades, there's 'The Lost Boys,' vampire Lestat [from 'Interview with the Vampire']. They go in and out, but they're always around. It's a funny thing about vampires, somebody was saying, 'Vampires are sexy; werewolves aren't sexy.' "

When asked if playing a vampire was something Mintz-Plasse had on his actor wish list before signing onto "Fright Night," he said he had so much fun that he now understands why so many people enjoy donning fangs and sucking blood onscreen. "It was awesome to do," Mintz-Plasse said. "Now I get it why people play vampires."

That is, everything but the intense make-up job he apparently had to endure. "The [make-up] was kind of a pain in the ass," Mintz-Plasse revealed. "Four hours a day sitting in a chair, getting that stuff done. It was cool to play something evil and dark, have this rasp to your voice and hate Anton [Yelchin, who plays Mintz-Plasse's character's former BFF], which is hard to do, he's a sweet guy, but it's cool to play that character."

Mintz-Plasse, Gillespie and "Fright Night" are just the beginning of our Sneak Peek Week lead into the Movie Awards.

Thursday night is "The Help," with Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard; and Friday is "30 Minutes or Less" with Aziz Ansari, Michael Pena and Ruben Fleischer.

Will vampires and werewolves own the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Can wizards or dream thieves steal the Golden Popcorn? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. 'Hangover Part II' Stars Promise 'A Lot More Comedy' In Sequel

'It was just utter excitement to play these characters again,' Bradley Cooper tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

Given the incredible box-office success of 2009's mega-hit comedy "The Hangover," it seemed as though a future installment of the outlandish antics of "Wolf Pack" members Alan, Stu and Phil would be inevitable. Which brings us to "The Hangover Part II," which is opening in theaters this weekend.

MTV News caught up with the men behind the magic recently, actors Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, who not only explained Cooper's head-shaving skills, but also revealed that the main castmembers were originally hesitant to venture into sequel territory.

"I think it was more excitement once we got the second script, which was really wonderful — actually stronger than the first one," Cooper said of getting the gang back together again. "It was just utter excitement to play these characters again and hopefully deliver a movie where fans will be excited to see what happened. We get to see where Alan lives, we get to see Stu progress to two years, Phil as well, so I think it was just exciting to hopefully provide a lot more comedy for people who liked the first one."

Helms has also said that there was some hesitancy to try and make lightning strike twice in a second film.

"We had no idea that 'The Hangover' would do what it did, so we were all kind of blown away," Helms told us at a New York screening of the film. "But then very quickly a conversation for a sequel started, and we were all kind of like, 'I don't know.' And then Todd showed us the script, and it was amazing, so we were like, 'Yeah, let's do that.' "

Regarding what audiences can expect from "Hangover Part II," Helms said to expect a bit more of the same.

"[It's] disturbing, horrifying, unnerving," he said. "Oh, and also hilarious. I forgot that ... Lots of craziness happened on set, and you'll see all of that in the movie."

Imogen Thomas gets turned away from a top London club during a night out?

Poor Imogen Thomas seemed to absolutely hate all the press attention she was receiving during a night out in London on Friday.

The former BB star, at the centre of the super injunction scandal, had two bodyguards by her side as she went to popular celeb haunt Nobu with her pals, followed by another top celeb haunt called The Box - where she was sadly turned away from. Shame.

Fortunately Imogen didn?t seem too bothered by the rejection, she went to a nearby late night caf where she waited for half an hour and got collected by a cab. It was probably for the best anyway as Imogen had to be up bright and early the next day ? she?s gone on holiday you see. With footballer (she likes them, we know) Jermain Defoe no less; the pair have rekindled their relationship in the wake of her affair scandal and have gone off on a luxury spa weekend away together to Champneys.

It?s a tough life.

'Wolverine' Targets Eight Directors To Replace Darren Aronofsky

'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' helmer Doug Liman and 'Training Day' 's Antoine Fuqua reportedly among those in contention.
By Eric Ditzian

In March, just as Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan" had crossed the $100 million mark domestically on its way to a superhero flick-like $310 million global haul, the director ditched his plans to helm an actual comic book film.

In announcing his plans to depart the Hugh Jackman-starring "The Wolverine," Aronofsky cited the project's lengthy production schedule and said, "I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time." Ever since, "Wolverine" has been wandering in the swirling winds of online rumors, as the likes of David Slade ("New Moon") and Duncan Jones ("The Source Code") were said to have interest in taking on helming duties.

Now, according to Variety, Fox has narrowed the directorial search to eight candidates: José Padilha ("Elite Squad 1"), Doug Liman ("Mr. and Mrs. Smith"), Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day"), Mark Romanek ("Never Let Me Go"), Justin Lin ("Fast Five"), Gavin O'Connor (the forthcoming "Warrior"), James Mangold ("Knight and Day") and Gary Shore (a director of commercials and a 'Wolverine' short film).

As Variety points out, the studio is targeting a diverse group of directors, from ones with blockbuster experience (Liman, Lin, Mangold) to music video skills (Romanek) to relatively untested talents (Shore). That's hardly a surprise. Aronofsky, after all, had been known as more of an art-house darling than a director ready — and interested — in taking on more commercial fare.

Although Fox is pushing forward with "Wolverine," the project still has many question marks clouding its future. The film is said to take place largely in Japan, and the recent earthquakes there have reportedly disrupted plans to shoot on location.

"Fox is very anxious to make the movie and we're moving ahead full steam to find another director," Jackman said in March. "We need to find another director and once we've found that, we'll be able to know."

Who would you like to see at the helm of "Wolverine"? Tell us in the comments!

Here, we have a sneak peek at the official 2011 Movie Awards gift bag, which will be presented to celebrities at the show. This year's gift bag features a bevy of products from name-brand companies including Starbucks, Casio, Murad, Mattel, Ralph Lauren Fragrances and Lacoste.

"Twilight" fans might be excited to learn that Pro Beauty Tools is gifting celebrities with a bunch of their professional hair-styling tools, the standout being the styling brush used on the set of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn."

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" leads the Golden Popcorn nominations this year with eight nods — including Best Movie, Best Fight and Best Kiss — narrowly besting the dream thieves of "Inception" (seven nods) and the wizards of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" (six nods). 'Hunger Games' Casts Lenny Kravitz As Cinna

'When I saw Lenny's work in 'Precious,' I was just knocked out,' director Gary Ross says.
By Kara Warner

The buzzworthy big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' dystopian best-seller "The Hunger Games" has added yet another highly anticipated cast member: Lenny Kravitz will play creative, kindhearted stylist Cinna.

Director Gary Ross said of the casting decision, "When I saw Lenny's work in 'Precious,' I was just knocked out. It was quiet and strong and understated and openhearted; all qualities which define this character. I'm really looking forward to this ride."

Cinna is the stylist for District 12 tributes Katniss and Peeta. Hunger Games stylists are responsible for presenting their tributes in complex costumes and ensembles that reflect characteristics of the tributes' native districts, as well as the personalities of the young men and women to which the stylist is assigned. Cinna is one of the few calming presences in Katniss' life, as well as one of the few people she can trust.

Naturally, Kravitz is best known for his music career — he won the Best Male Rock Vocal Performance Grammy four years in a row from 1999 to 2002, breaking the record for most wins in that category and most consecutive wins in one category — with tracks like "Are You Gonna Go My Way," "Fly Away," "American Woman," and "Again." Over the last few years, however, Kravitz has dipped his multitalented toe into the world of acting, his breakout role being that of compassionate and encouraging Nurse John in "Precious."

Kravitz joins a long list of high-profile stars, including Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinkett and Wes Bentley as Seneca Crane.

Olivia Ward?s Big Loss Leads to Big Win

?Am I watching The Bachelorette or am I watching The Biggest Loser?? trainer Bob Harper asked himself as he watched 35-year-old Olivia Ward win the $250,000 prize on the season 11 finale of The Biggest Loser. ?Her legs were about as long as your whole body,? For those of you keeping score at home, that is a 49.43% drop from when she arrived at the ranch at the beginning of the season. While she looks amazing now, it wasn?t easy for Olivia to get used to shopping for her new size. ?It?s a little daunting, I?m not going to lie; not even my underwear fit me anymore! It?s the weirdest thing ever,? she confided to In Touch onstage after her big win.

However, after realizing she could fit into any dress she pleased, Olivia went straight to the high-end fashion aisle to try on the best dresses in town and found her Herv Lger dream dress. ?I am totally wearing this dress that all these celebrities are wearing! It is great! That was the most fun shopping trip ever, it was like a Cinderella shopping trip; it was amazing!?

After all, that is what usually happens in these situations, right? But not a word has been uttered and instead we?ve been left in some sort of weird has she, hasn?t she been sacked limbo and we don?t have a clue what?s going on.

Luckily Sinatta ? aka Simon Cowell?s unofficial spokeswoman ? knows what?s been going down and she?s keen to share the details with all and sundry:

?There is something going on. All I can say is Simon and Cheryl are very close and I believe they are in talks to try and sort something out,? she said.

?As soon as they agree on something then we will hear about it. They are having private conversations,? she revealed.

Apparently they are still trying to work something out and as soon as they do we?ll be the first to find out.

Hmmm, we?re still none the wiser, are you?

Angelina Jolie Admits: I Have a Little Bit of a Hard Shell Sometimes

angpanda1_wide.jpg
Angelina Jolie is no stranger to world travel, so she must have felt right at home at the Asian-inspired red carpet for Kung Fu Panda 2 at Grauman?s Chinese theater on Sunday, May 22. A traditional Chinese Dragon Dance is no easy act to follow, but as Angelina walked down the carpet, she made it look easy in her stunning Michael Kors dress slit up the side to show off her great legs.

Angelina, who plays a very strong-willed character in the film, was quick to point out a difference between her and Tigress: ?She?s tough but sometimes she doesn?t know how to be soft, and it?s taken me a little while in my life, and my kids have certainly helped with that, too, to get me a little softer because I have a little bit of a hard shell sometimes.?

After having a chance to watch the film with her family, Angelina told reporters that she feels the film has some good messages, like, ?? family comes in all different ways. It comes in mothers, fathers, single parents, some are adopted, different races; and so family is where the love is, family is where you can go to find loyalty and friendship.?

'Kung Fu Panda 2': The Reviews Are In!

One reviewer calls sequel 'both meditative and immensely entertaining.'
By Eric Ditzian

"Kung Fu Panda 2"
Photo: Paramount Pictures

Over at MTV Movies Blog, we've already laid out the five reasons you need to see "Kung Fu Panda 2." From Jack Black's manically hilarious turn as Po to some wickedly creative fight scenes, this sequel is a ton of fun.

But hey, don't just take our word for it. Reviewers are riding high on this animal adventure, a follow-up to DreamWorks' 2008 animated hit, celebrating the lush visuals and the top-notch voice performance Black delivers. Dissenters are few and far between, and their criticisms read more like nitpicking and fail to acknowledge that kids will undoubtedly get a kick out of this flick.

The Story
"Deepening the surprising maturity of its predecessor, the movie successfully takes story beats from classic kung fu stories and dials back on the humor without letting things get too dark and dramatic, creating a work that is both meditative and immensely entertaining. Picking up where the first film left off, Po (Jack Black) has eased into his position as the Dragon Warrior, when the world of kung fu is threatened by the return of Lord Shen (Gary Oldman), a villain who has built a weapon of mass destruction. What Po doesn't know, however, is that Lord Shen holds the key to his history and the knowledge of who he really is. Working with the kung fu masters known as the Furious Five (Angelina Jolie, David Cross, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen and Jackie Chan), Po is not only on a mission to save China, but on a journey of self-discovery." — Eric Eisenberg, Cinema Blend

The Performances
"Aside from crisp visuals and no-fat way with martial arts movie traditions, the biggest achievement of the 'Kung Fu Panda' movies is how they distill their star's very Jack Black-ness down to its most bearable form. Always the wildest guy in the room, Black has turned into a living 'Gulliver's Travels.' Yet here, as in the first 'KFP,' he gives a charmingly vulnerable but sly vocal performance, with plenty of sass and a decent side order of soul." — Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News

The Visuals
"Director Jennifer Yuh Nelson's background in design and animation seems to have informed the best parts of 'Kung Fu Panda 2' — its splendid palette of color and detail, rich but crisp and balanced (Guillermo del Toro served as a creative consultant, and one of Po's murky, indelible nightmares bears his distinctive mark); and that palette's harmony with both the engaged use of 3-D and the witty and well-defined battle sequences." — Michelle Orange, Movieline

The Dissenters
"This one plays with some unusually dark and upsetting material. Its escalation of evil messes up the high-spirited sweetness that was the most winning feature of the first movie. Po's clumsy, goofy eagerness no longer seems quite as amusing now that he is a psychologically damaged warrior. And his action-team entourage, drawn from various species of animal and movie star — praying mantis, tiger, monkey, etc; Seth Rogen, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, etc. — do more to crowd the picture than to enliven it." — A.O. Scott, The New York Times

The Final Word
"There is a price to be paid for the visual razzle-dazzle — wonderful complexity against a simple story that could have benefited from some bulking up (layered, not longer). Still with Black shelving his usual snark for Po's self-deprecating charm, Jolie making Tigress terrifyingly overqualified for everything as only she can do, Rogen's Mantis showing the actor's growing facility for voicing animation and [Dustin] Hoffman, as ever, the guru everyone wants, they've brought this warrior's tale to kicking, spinning, bone-crunching, feather-flying life." — Betsey Sharkey, Los Angeles Times

Natalie Cassidy fianc punched a hole in a microwave before his assault on her?

Friends of Natalie Cassidy and Adam Cottrell have claimed that the couple were rowing bitterly for weeks before the transport worker allegedly assaulted the actress over the weekend.

Cottrell was arrested on Sunday night after the pair had a blazing row, he was charged with two counts of beating the actress and two counts of criminal damage.

Prior to his alleged outburst, it has also been claimed, Adam punched his first through a microwave in a mad rage with Natalie over the phone.

Cassidy?s dad claims that Cottrell?s outburst came after Natalie called him to say she wasn?t coming home that evening. He said:

"Natalie and the baby came here, we spent Saturday together and had lunch.

"On Sunday she told him on the phone she wouldn't be going back and we heard this crash in the background. He'd put his fist through the microwave."

He added: "I'm just worried for Natalie and for my granddaughter.

"She's the most lovely baby - really happy. It's not the situation you want when there's a young child."

It?s thought that Natalie has now called off her wedding to Adam and indeed her relationship with him as she contemplates her future.

Candy Spelling On Tori And Dean: ?They?re Great Parents!?

Candy Spelling can?t contain her joy about being a grandma? again! The proud grandmother to daughter Tori Spelling?s children, Liam, 4, and Stella, 2, glowed at the 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards in NYC as she told In Touch that she?s expecting not one, but two new grandchildren! ?My daughter is expecting in October, and Randy, my son, is expecting next week,? Candy said. ?They get married and they start multiplying! My son lives in Portland, so I can only visit them once in a while. But for my daughter, I have two car seats now. I guess I?ll have to get a third one.?

Candy added that Tori, 38, and Dean, 44, are ?great parents? -- and a fertile couple! ?I asked her in the beginning, are you trying to get pregnant? She said ?No, we weren?t trying. It happened.??

And how does her busy daughter juggle raising a family and a reality TV career? ?She seems to handle it? Candy laughed. ?When you have nannies and you have a grandma, it?s okay!?

Candy also shared that her daughter doesn?t care whether the baby is a boy or a girl. ?She has one of each, so now whatever it is, it is! I love them both!?

Of course, being a grandma has its privileges! ?I like that I can spoil them,? Candy added. ?Last week, I was in their tap and ballet class. Stella was so happy to see her mom, because she?s usually working and she can?t come. She came and they were shooting it on the show. Tori turns around to me and said, ?Mom, what are you doing? You gave her gum?? And I said, ?I did? I don?t know where she got it.? ?

After wrapping up his My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option Show on May 3, Charlie Sheen and now single Goddess Natalie Kenly attended the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation?s 8th Annual Gala ?Finding a Cure: A Love Story.? I guess that clears up any confusion of whether or not he might return to Two and a Half Men!

'Hesher' Star Joseph Gordon-Levitt Raves About Producer Natalie Portman

'I've always wanted to work with her,' actor says of his co-star and her debut as movie producer.
By Kara Warner

For those who have followed the acting career of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it has become more and more apparent that he has a knack for choosing unique and diverse projects that, whether intentional or not, have helped him showcase a wide range of acting abilities. Over the last few years, Gordon-Levitt has portrayed a hopeless romantic ("500 Days of Summer"), a supervillain ("G.I. Joe"), a debonair dream master ("Inception") and now a detached drifter in "Hesher."

When MTV News caught up with the character chameleon recently, we asked him what he liked about portraying a seemingly heartless, detached and destructive individual and what new things the role allowed him to explore.

"What new things did Hesher allow me to explore? Well this is a guy who's really detached from any material possessions," Gordon-Levitt explained of the titular character. "Or the future of where he's going or the past of where he comes from, or any stuff like that. He just lives in the here and now," he said. "I think that was pretty illuminating for me to spend time in that kind of headspace."

The film, which premiered at Sundance in 2010, is told through the perspective of a 12-year-old boy named TJ, whose life is suddenly interrupted, in a way, by Hesher. He is a tattooed, stringy-haired nihilist who moves in, unbidden, with TJ and his father (Rainn Wilson), a broken family deep in depression over the sudden death of the mother.

In addition to enjoying the freedom and devil-may-care attitude that came with playing the role, Gordon-Levitt also welcomed the opportunity to work with actress Natalie Portman, who also served as a producer on the film.

"Natalie and I met for the first time on 'Hesher,' " Gordon-Levitt revealed. "I've always admired her work. People like her, beautiful young actresses, I think get pigeonholed so much. And she just shatters that box over and over again because she's a real artist and does such great work. So I've always wanted to work with her," he said.

"Also, she produced Hesher, and it's the first thing her production company has ever produced," Gordon-Levitt explained of Portman's Handsomecharlie Films. "What a cool movie to produce if you're Natalie Portman, not some huge moneymaker, but like, 'No this is a great story, I believe in it, I'm gonna see to it that it gets made.' I admire her for that." Check out everything we've got on "Hesher."

Angelina Jolie Confirms Talks With David Fincher To Direct 'Cleopatra'

'Fincher's been an old friend, so we've always been looking for something to do,' she tells MTV News.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Angelina Jolie
Photo: MTV News

Last time we caught up with Angelina Jolie, we ran through a slew of potential projects for the A-list star, pumping for details about her rumored onscreen collaboration with beau Brad Pitt, a potential project with Darren Aronofsky and the possibility (now squashed, thanks to Anne Hathaway) of playing Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises."

Meeting back up with Jolie at the Cannes Film Festival this week while she was promoting "Kung Fu Panda 2," we again touched on a few of her upcoming projects. First, there's "Cleopatra," a 3-D retelling of the ancient Egyptian queen's life. For a while, it seemed James Cameron might take on directorial duties, and then Paul Greengrass' name entered the conversation. Then in March, David Fincher — who's been consumed with production in Sweden on an adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" — reportedly became the latest helmer to set his sights on the film.

So will Jolie and Fincher be teaming up for "Cleopatra"? It seems that way. "Yes, we just don't know," she told us, "It's all very early. Fincher's been an old friend, so we've always been looking for something to do."

From there, we hit on another cinematic retelling of historical figures, this one focusing on the political and personal relationship between Winston Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt. Earlier this month, Anthony Hopkins exclusively revealed to MTV News that he was looking to play Churchill for a project Jolie is producing. But after directing her first feature — a love story set during the Bosnian War — we wondered if she might also helm that project.

"Right now, I'm just producing it," Jolie said. "Just want to see it get done."

When asked if she'd found a Roosevelt to go head-to-head with Hopkins' Churchill, she answered simply, "No."
