The Amazing Race?s Chad and Stephanie: Just married?and expecting!
They may have been eliminated from this week?s episode of The Amazing Race 17, but Chad Waltrip and Stephanie Smith have bigger things on their mind. The couple, who became engaged on a recent episode on the CBS competition series while traveling in Muscat, Oman, said ?I do? in an intimate ceremony at a friend?s beach home in their native Florida on November 20. ?We were planning to wed next year - but I?m expecting! I didn?t want to be a pregnant bride,? Stephanie tells In Touch. The Fort Lauderdale stylist adds that she and Chad will welcome their first child early next June. ?We?re so excited! We are both from big families, so we have a lot of experience with kids,? she says. The newlyweds find out their baby?s sex just before Christmas. ?I would love to have a little boy, but I?ll be happy to have a girl, too,? Chad tells In Touch.

Mark Wahlberg Gives Thanks For 'The Fighter,' 'The Other Guys' In 2010
He's also thankful for 'Boardwalk Empire' — and we're thankful for him.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Next up on our short list of people for whom we're most thankful this year: Mark Wahlberg. Certain generations will always remember him as Marky Mark from his days of "Good Vibrations" and Calvin Klein underwear ads. But in the last decade, Wahlberg has emerged as one of the industry's most savvy and bankable players.
In 2010, we were introduced to a new side of Wahlberg — his comedic timing — which he showcased by way of "Date Night," "The Other Guys" and MTV's own "The Knife Show." Behind the screen, Wahlberg teamed up with heavyweights Martin Scorsese and Terrence Winter ("The Sopranos") to bring "Boardwalk Empire" to HBO. He also produced and stars in "The Fighter." The man has been busy, and we're happy about it.
MTV: You're one of the people we're most thankful for. Has this year been particularly better than others?
Mark Wahlberg: It has. Every year above ground was a special year. Professionally, things couldn't be better. Personally, my kids are healthy — aside from my youngest having a double ear infection. My wife is healthy and happy and everything is good, so really I'm so blessed and so fortunate.
We've had a chance to talk and play around, but I'm not one of these guys who feels, like, entitled to be in this position. I feel so grateful and so humble. I've obviously worked very hard, it's been an amazing journey, but if it ended today, I would be happy because I was on the ride.
MTV: Is there a highlight from this year?
Wahlberg: I would have to say between the movie stuff and the television stuff — with "Boardwalk Empire" premiering, "The Other Guys" did so well. Getting to go do a comedy at the beginning of this year with Seth McFarlane, his directorial debut. I'm so excited, it's off-the-charts funny.
MTV: Tell me about "Teddy Bear," because it sounds absurd and amazing at the same time.
Wahlberg: I don't know how much he wants me to tell, but it's about this kid who gets a bear for Christmas, it's in the '70s, it's one of those Teddy Ruxpin-ish bears where you squeeze it and it says, "I love you!" The kid wishes and dreams that the bear would come alive, and a Christmas wish must be granted and it does. And Seth McFarlane is voicing the bear, but the bear is going to look like a little teddy bear, but it's motion-capture, like "Avatar." It's never been done before. It's insane. What the bear does is just ...
MTV: An R-rated comedy? I assume when Seth McFarlane is involved ...
Wahlberg: Yeah. The bear becomes famous, and then that's my ticket to getting things and living a life of privilege.
MTV: How satisfying was it for you to finally make "The Fighter"?
Wahlberg: Just to be able to get the movie made was such an uphill battle. I was so happy we got it made, and then the fact that we were able to make a great movie and, I think, the best possible version of the movie. There were so many times where I thought I would make the movie just to get it done, but it happened for the right reasons.
MTV: Do you have plans to direct?
Wahlberg: I want to direct, but I don't want to direct myself in a movie, because then it becomes about directing my performance. I don't have the ability to be that kind of multitasker. Producing was tough enough. But in the future, I'd like to take a crack at it.
MTV: What's next? You've talked about "Cocaine Cowboys."
Wahlberg: Yeah, probably right now. And then there's this other thing, "Broken City," that I want to do at the end of next year with Allen Hughes directing, which is on the Black List. [Editor's note: The Black List is a compendium of unproduced screenplays that different studios/readers have given high marks to.] It's one of the best unproduced screenplays, an amazing piece of material that should attract amazing talent. ... Hopefully "Fighter" will make it a little easier to get some of these passion projects off the ground.
MTV: What kind of film is "Broken City"?
Wahlberg: Crime, mystery. It's in the vein of those old classics, "Chinatown," even "L.A. Confidential."
Thanksgiving is a time for taking stock, expressing gratitude and, most importantly, overeating. We at MTV News have been gorging all year at movie theaters, so it's about time we looked back and gave thanks to our favorite actors and filmmakers of 2010. Enjoy exclusive interviews with our winners all week long.
Check out everything we've got on "The Fighter."

They Said It: week of Nov. 8
Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010
Jets WR Braylon Edwards, quoted on NYDailyNews.com on his return to Cleveland this Sunday: "I think the boos will be serious. I think everybody will be against me." Edwards went on to discuss his reputation in Cleveland as a receiver that drops too many balls: "I feel like it was some B.S. I got a bad rap based off one year. I don't think it was fair. It stuck with me. I didn't like that rap. I did play with six or seven different quarterbacks that year, but that's neither here or there."
Rams QB Sam Bradford, gushing over his favorite target, former undrafted WR Danny Amendola, as quoted on NOLA.com: "He's able to do so many things for this offense. He knows what he's doing, he knows the type of route he's going to have to run to get open, and he just seems to get open all the time."
Broncos WR Brandon Lloyd, discussing Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs, which features several coaches — Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels and Chiefs coordinators Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel — that stem from the Bill Belichick coaching tree, as quoted in The Denver Post: "I think that every week is always a chess match. But you always see when these former New England coaches go up against each other, the stakes are raised up a little higher."
Chiefs head coach Todd Haley, quoted in the Winnipeg Free Press on the maturation of LB Derrick Johnson: "All I saw was a player that pushed his chips in and made it clear he wanted to be part of this and wasn't going to be denied. The more guys you have like that who are doing that, who are willing to push them all in and say, 'Let's do this,' the better chance you have. And we're getting more and more, and that's a real good thing for the Kansas City Chiefs."
Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010
Colts RB Joseph Addai, discussing the timetable in which he hopes to return from the shoulder injury he sustained in Week Six, as quoted in The Indianapolis Star: "It's still hurting. I feel comfortable more about the New England game, but I'm trying to come back for this game. The thing I notice is if I'm holding the football in this (right) arm, I'm holding it tight and I can grip it. In this (left) one, you hit it and it might fall out."
Former Packers CB Al Harris, quoted in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel on his release from the club earlier this week: "They were definitely leading me on, telling me something else. I just didn't think Ted (Thompson) and Mike (McCarthy) would do that. I thought they would be a little more straight forward with me. They had me going home and studying and things like that, and they already knew their plans."
Eagles S Quintin Mikell, sharing his frustration after his team was flagged several times on Sunday against the Colts for hits that he feels were perfectly legal, as quoted on Courier-Post: "It's really confusing right now. Hopefully, we'll get a more solidified answers and more outlined exactly what's (an illegal hit), but right now it seems like it's a subjective call that the refs are making." Added Mikell: "We have a helmet on for a reason. As a defensive player, it's like "What do you guys want from us?' "
49ers head coach Mike Singletary, quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle explaining the differences between QBs Alex Smith and Troy Smith: "Alex Smith is a guy who comes in, he's going to lead by example. That's his idea of leadership. He's not going to be a guy that tells someone to do something. … His style of leadership, he leads by example. That's who Alex Smith is." Singletary continued, describing Troy Smith's more hands-on approach of being a leader: "The kid's a leader, he'll get in your face, he'll take charge. When you have a Vernon Davis, a Michael Crabtree, you have guys that want the ball. … I wanted to make sure there was somebody in the huddle that could police that, that could handle themselves. I wanted someone that had the poise and composure and could go out there and give us a chance to win. That's the bottom line."
Lions WR Calvin Johnson, endorsing third-string QB Drew Stanton, who is likely to get the start Sunday in Buffalo, as quoted in the Detroit Free Press: "The thing about Drew is we know Drew's a dog, in a good way. He's going to go out there and get the job done, whether it might be pretty or ugly. We're going to stand by him and he's going to stand by us."
Monday, Nov. 8, 2010
Jets OL Damien Woody, quoted in the Detroit Free Press on Jim Schwartz's decision to attempt a pass on third down coming out of the two-minute warning with a three-point lead and his third-string quarterback in the game. QB Drew Stanton threw incomplete, stopping the clock and giving the Jets, who had no timeouts, enough time to drive downfield and kick a game-tying field goal to force overtime: "They actually did us a favor. I was like, 'What are they doing?'"
Vikings head coach Brad Childress, who heard the chants and saw the signs from fans calling for his firing on Sunday, discussing his club's dramatic 27-24 overtime victory over the Cardinals, as quoted by The Associated Press: "I think they came expecting to see an execution. And it ended up a pretty good football game at the end."
Ravens veteran WR Derrick Mason, quoted on The Daily Dolphin ripping Dolphins LB Channing Crowder after Crowder accused Ravens FB Le'Ron McClain of spitting on him during Sunday's 26-10 Ravens victory: "The guy was either on the ground or getting pushed out of bounds. Willis (McGahee) stiff-armed him and made him look like a fool. There comes a point in time when you're going to talk the talk walk the walk. He figured he can talk his way through a game. He tried that a few years ago with coach (Rex) Ryan and it didn't work. I don't understand why this guy continues to talk. This is not boxing. You can't scare your opponent. You got to play football and the guy doesn't want to play football. The guy can't play football, point blank."
Browns head coach Eric Mangini, joking after his club pulled off a huge upset over his former employer, the Patriots, on Sunday, as quoted in The Boston Globe: "I feel like I'm in that movie, 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.' ''We had New England this week and the Jets next week. It's special and it's special to me because of our guys, because of our team, not because of their team. Because of our team.''
Raiders OL Khalif Barnes, quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle on his first career TD reception on Sunday that helped propel his club to a 23-20 overtime victory over the AFC West-leading Chiefs: "I was like, 'Oh I have it,' and I said, 'Oh I don't have it,' and I was kind of disappointed. I caught it and looked at the ground and I was like, 'Am I in the endzone? I'm in the endzone!' "
Help on the way for battered Colts
Owner Bill Polian has seen a lot in his 30-plus years in the NFL. But he recently acknowledged that he has never seen an injury bug this nasty. With a league-leading 12 players on injured reserve, the Colts have given new meaning to the phrase "next man up." But we hear that help is on the way. Several key players, including SS Bob Sanders and RB Joseph Addai, are expected to be ready by Week 12 or Week 13. Sanders' torn biceps tendon is improving, and he is going to meet with Dr. James Andrews very soon to discuss an expedited rehabilitation schedule. Although Addai is still experiencing pain, he has shown encouraging signs. Our sources say that if the Colts can get Sanders, Addai and others back for the final stretch, it could resemble Dallas Clark's return from a knee injury in Week 17 of the 2006 season when he gave the Colts a major boost on the way to winning Super Bowl XLI.

Cricketing Bytes: Tendulkar, Racism, UDRS and Modi Again
Just when you thought that there were no more honours that could be bestowed on Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, the ICC goes ahead and names him the official event ambassador for the 2011 World Cup.
The master batsman will support and promote a variety of ICC initiatives for the World Cup. This will also be Tendulkar’s sixth World Cup, thus joining Javed Miandad at the top of the heap.
Another South African, former coach Mickey Arthur, has joined Herschelles Gibbs in opening up the can of worms that is South African cricket. In his book Taking The Mickey, Arthur has revealed that Hashim Amla’s elevation to the SA ODI team was delayed as he was forced to play Loots Bosman instead succumbing to race politics.
Hashim Amla currently tops the ICC ODI rankings. Arthur resigned as coach early this year.
After expressing his unwillingness to use the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS), India captain MS Dhoni has done an about face and now come out in support of the system.
Dhoni on Thursday:
"The standard of umpiring has gone down and we need to have strong measures to improve that.
"But, as I have said earlier, I am not going to buy a life jacket that doesn't come with a warranty.
"At times you tend to make mistakes. The umpires are also most of the time thinking about over rates and player behaviour."
Dhoni also came out in support of struggling Gautam Gambhir ahead of the second Test against New Zealand at Hyderabad on Friday.
Gautam was ICC Test cricketer of the year in 2009.
Meanwhile, Chris Cairns is suing ex-IPL commissioner Lalit Modi for posting a Twitter message accusing him of match-fixing. Cairns was withdrawn from the IPL auction this year. The tweet was later retracted but Cairns has taken Modi to court, alleging the damage had already been done. Cairns claims that he left the Chandigarh Lions, an ICL team, because of fitness issues after damaging his knees.

Thursday Night Fantasy Football Matchup: Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons
Thursday Night Matchup: Ravens @ Falcons
brought to you by pyromaniac.com
Baltimore Ravens (6-2) Ravens Schedule
Opponent Defensive Ranks
Atlanta Pass Defense – 2010: Yards Allowed/Game 26th - TDs Allowed T-21st
Atlanta Rush Defense – 2010: Yards Allowed/Game 6th – TDs Allowed T-3rd
Baltimore Offensive Cast
Joe Flacco (QB Week 10 Ranking No. 7) 2010 Season: 160-for-263 – for 1,917 Yards, 12 TDs
Flacco has three games in a row now with 250-plus yards, two-plus TDs and a 111.0-plus QB Rating. He’s obviously hit his stride, so ride it out as long as you can. Atlanta boasts the seventh worst Pass D in the league, so I expect his upward trend to continue.
Ray Rice (RB Week 10 Ranking No. 13) 2010 Season: 153 Carries for 606 Yards, 2 TDs || 31 Recs for 236 Yards, 0 TDs
As I figured, Rice broke out against Miami last week. Will he do the same against a stout Falcons Rush D this week? Well, the real question is…how much time have the Falcons had to game-plan against him? Three days, that’s it and for anyone else who is a fan of Jane’s Addiction, you know what three days can do to a man. Bet on Rice putting up some pretty good numbers this Thursday.
Willis McGahee (RB Week 10 Ranking No. 28) 2010 Season: 57 Carries for 231 Yards, 4 TDs || 7 Recs for 48 Yards, 1 TD
McGahee has scored in each of the past four weeks, so it’s obvious the Ravens like his ability in the red zone. If they get close enough, McGahee will score. If not, well, then he won’t and certainly won’t be worth your time slotting him into your lineup.
Anquan Boldin (WR Week 10 Ranking No. 9) 2010 Season: 40 Recs for 546 Yards, 5 TDs
The 26th-ranked Falcons Pass D can be beaten both underneath and deep, two strengths in Anquan Boldin’s game. He’ll approach 100 yards this Thursday night and should reel in a TD as well.
Derrick Mason (WR Week 10 Ranking No. 44) 2010 Season: 30 Recs for 399 Yards, 2 TDs
Mason is still about as steady as it gets, but being steady doesn’t necessarily translate well into fantasy numbers. Atlanta doesn’t have the greatest of pass defenses (26th-ranked in the NFL), so there’s a chance this could be one of those games where Mason actually does something for your team.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh (WR Week 10 Ranking NR) 2010 Season: 11 Recs for 162 Yards, 1 TD
Housh will be competing with Donte Stallworth for snaps from now on, so he can’t be depended on for much of anything.
Donte Stallworth (WR Week 10 Ranking NR) 2010 Season: 0 Recs for 0 Yards, 0 TDs
Stallworth will take awhile to find his niche in this offense, so sit him for the time being.
Todd Heap (TE Week 10 Ranking NR) 2010 Season: 26 Recs for 341 Yards, 3 TDs
Heap has had himself a fine year and could be a decent fill-in if your normal guy is on a bye.
Atlanta Falcons (6-2) Falcons Schedule
Opponent Defensive Ranks
Baltimore Pass Defense – 2010: Yards Allowed/Game 9th - TDs Allowed T-3rd
Baltimore Rush Defense – 2010: Yards Allowed/Game 13th – TDs Allowed T-12th
Atlanta Offensive Cast
Matt Ryan (QB Week 10 Ranking No. 9) 2010 Season: 180-for-288 – for 1,949 Yards, 13 TDs
Ryan is a tough one to predict, but one thing is for sure: He’s been far better at home both this year and over the course of his career than on the road, so a short week might actually play into his favor. The Ravens are fairly good against the pass, but have been beat pretty hard-core at various times this year. Don’t let the overall numbers sway you.
Michael Turner (RB Week 10 Ranking No. 10) 2010 Season: 155 Carries for 694 Yards, 5 TDs || 9 Recs for 73 Yards, 0 TDs
Turner has over 100 yards and two TDs in each of the last two games. To be quite honest, I don’t see that happening against the Ravens, but it’s a short week because they play on Thursday night, so anything can happen. Take the chance.
Roddy White (WR Week 10 Ranking No. 1) 2010 Season: 58 Recs for 796 Yards, 5 TDs
I simply can’t go against Roddy. Sure, he may have busted up his knee a bit last week, but the word is that he’s fine and will have no problem going off on Thursday night. When healthy, he’s the No. 1 WR against pretty much any team in the league. The Ravens were burned just two weeks ago by both Lee Evans and Steve Johnson, so there’s no reason why Roddy can’t do the same.
Michael Jenkins (WR Week 10 Ranking NR) 2010 Season: 10 Recs for 179 Yards, 0 TDs
Jenkins just misses my rankings this week, though if the Ravens decide to double-up on Roddy, he could end up with some decent numbers.
Harry Douglas (WR Week 10 Ranking NR) 2010 Season: 15 Recs for 179 Yards, 1 TD
The kid has a ton of talent, but the Falcons seem content with letting him sit on the bench.
Tony Gonzalez (TE Week 10 Ranking No. 5) 2010 Season: 37 Recs for 364 Yards, 3 TDs
Gonzo still isn’t the fantasy force he’s been in years past, but he’s coming off a game in which he had 11 targets, eight catches and 72 yards, so he could be hitting his stride right now. With Gates and Zach Miller on their bye weeks, it’s tough not to put the most talented tight end in history up here in the rankings.

They said it: Bears edition
Here are some of the things Bears players were saying Wednesday at Halas Hall:
QB Jay Cutler on Vikings QB Brett Favre playing at the age of 41: "I don't know what he's doing. It's a lot of games, a lot of toll on your body. He's probably going to have to have some surgeries in the next 10 years to repair some stuff, but it's remarkable. I've always talked about it. Everyone knows what kind of precedent he has set. It's going to be hard for anybody to touch that."
DT Tommie Harris on the Vikings' offense: "The Vikings are good. They have a lot of weapons. Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson. Bernard Berrian is a guy you haven't heard much about, but he's been doing a lot of good things. They have a lot of weapons and we have to stop them."
WR Devin Aromashodu on whether he's happy with his role right now: "Of course I want to be out there playing more, but we're winning. We won five games. (We're) in the hunt to make the playoffs, so that's the main goal overall."

Patriots place PK Gostkowski on injured reserve
The Patriots have placed PK Stephen Gostkowski on injured reserve with a thigh injury.
Gostkowski aggravated a quad strain during last Sunday's Browns game. He reportedly felt the thigh tighten up in pregame warmups and then it got worse after a kickoff in the second quarter. Wes Welker had to handle kicking duties thereafter, and the productive wide receiver connected on his only extra-point attempt.
Prior to landing on I.R., it was believed that Gostkowski would miss a couple of games.
The Patriots signed PK Shayne Graham on Tuesday to fill in for Gostkowski.
The way we see it
Apparently the Patriots didn't want to give up a roster spot while waiting for Gostkowski to heal and decided to go with a proven, veteran kicker for the rest of the season.
Graham, 32, has connected on 85.2 percent of his field-goal attempts during his career. Gostkowski, who had never missed a game in his Patriots career, has hit on 84.3 percent of his FG tries.

Serie A 2010-11: Inter's Struggles Give Rise To New Challengers and Renewed Hope
It is a shaping up to be a very different and slightly strange season in Italy’s Serie A. With round eleven fast approaching, no club has yet to show the consistency and resilience normally associated with championship contenders. Not even perennial champions Inter, who look a shadow of their former selves. For this reason it appears that this season’s Scudetto race will be wide open.
Unfancied Lazio have been the early pacesetters with their somewhat modest squad. After ten rounds the Bianocelesti still sit atop of the standings despite succumbing to their fiercest rivals, Roma, last weekend.
Milan have failed to impress, despite what their second place position might suggest. The Rossoneri have looked vulnerable at the back all season. They conceded another two goals against lowly Bari on Sunday and up front Coach Max Allegri is still tinkering as he continues to struggle to find the right combination.
Juventus, at the start, were very poor, but are now perhaps the in-form team in Serie A. Undefeated in six matches that included two difficult trips to the San Siro to face Inter and Milan, Juventus are looking more like contenders with every match. Yet, there are questions marks over whether the Bianconeri have a strong enough squad to continue in such a way.
After ten rounds Napoli are also sitting pretty in fifth place, equal with fourth placed Juventus. But of all the teams that occupy the top spots in Serie A, Napoli certainly possess the weakest of squads. For this reason, despite their impressive start, the Neapolitans dream of their first Scudetto in over twenty years seems beyond their reach.
The one reason why things appear much different this year compared to recent seasons is due to the current struggles Inter is experiencing. Italian and European champions last season, Inter have so far failed to hit the right note under their new coach Rafa Benitez.
On paper, the Nerazzurri are still the strongest team in Italy and by some way. Yet, the domination of Serie A that started following the controversial Calciopoli scandal in 2006 now looks under real threat.
Rafa Benitez has failed to build upon the winning foundations laid by his treble-winning predecessor Jose Mourinho. In Italy, Inter are currently sitting in third position whilst in Europe they have struggled to impress. Just last week they were comprehensively outplayed by European novices Tottenham, losing 3-1. In their last match, played on Saturday night, they struggled to a one all draw at home to lowly Brescia, only drawing level from the spot.
This may just be the season that is remembered as when Inter lost its hegemony over Italian football.
It is hard to see things getting better for Inter either. Their injury list continues to grow leaving Benitez, who was already struggling, with even greater problems.
This season’s Serie A is appearing to be the most open championship in many years. For Italian football this is only a good thing.
Inter’s domination of Calcio has effectively made the championship a one-horse race for a number of years now. Such a situation has done little for Serie A’s broad appeal to fans.
The open race for this season’s title means the there is a real possibility that a club besides Inter will claim the Scudetto next May. The rise of a new victor will coincide with the emergence of new stars.
But, more importantly, Italian football will be the biggest winner at the end of the day. An open title race is exciting to watch and it may reignite public interest in the game, once again serving to bring fans back to the stadiums, after years of declining attendances.
For a league that has had its fair share of troubles in recent years, all this is a welcome change. It gives a glimmer of hope that Calcio is on the way back.

Los Angeles Lakers-Portland Trail Blazers Game Recap: Cohesion Is the Game
If the Blazers were supposed to be the key test in the West, it seems the Lakers will have a clear path to the Finals.
Undefeated at 7-0, the Lakers kept their opponent under 100 for the second time this season. An unlikely triple-double emerged from our towering center, Pau Gasol, who ended his night early with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in only 31 minutes of playing time.
Equally impressive was Lamar Odom, who finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double in seven games.
The Blazers struggled early, trailing by 13 in the first quarter, and unable to make much of a run throughout the night. Their star player, Brandon Roy, only had eight points, making one out of six field goals in 31 minutes.
The win could have been credited to the strong defensive plays by the Lakers tonight. Roy was clearly having a hard time with Ron playing very physically. Using his size to his advantage both defensively and offensively, Ron shut down Roy, much like Durant in the playoffs. Camby and Aldridge were both limited in scoring by the long arms of Odom and Gasol packing the paint to prevent any easy shots.
But it seems the root of tonight’s story goes deeper than just defensive stops. It was a story of teamwork.
1:15 left in the third quarter, Steve Blake steals the ball from Wesley Matthews. He dashes down the empty court, for what seems to be an easy layup. It was an off-the-glass pass to Pau, who slammed it home for his 20th point.
Most players would love to take credit for those transition points, and even do some show-boating, but not Blake. In his act of complete selflessness, Blake would not even step on the pedestal, but handed the ball over to Pau. Our players want to play basketball.
No longer does Kobe have to attempt 20+ shots a game, or feel the need to rack up 81 points because his teammates just can’t get into it. The triangle offense is actually being executed the way that it should be: by moving the ball.
A story emerged from the Lakers locker room; Odom was asking the bench what first comes to mind in possession of the ball. Most players chose passing over shooting. Of course, there are exceptions like Sasha, who is desperately trying to earn minutes, but this is where the game falls apart.
Fourth quarter, the ball is making its round on the court, but comes to a dead halt in the hands of Sasha Vujacic. It leaves a little too early for the hoop, with 20 seconds still on the clock. Lo and behold, the turnovers begin to stack up, as the rest of the team plays according to Sasha’s rhythm. Slow it down. Pass the ball.
Until the fourth, the game was being played beautifully. The Lakers weren’t giving up on offensive rebounds. They were looking for cutters and open shots. They helped on defense; on one occasion, forcing Aldridge to lose the ball on a double-team. Teamwork.
The offense is looking good, as tonight marks the seventh game straight where the Lakers have scored above 100 points. The defense is getting there, and if they continue to play team-minded basketball, there’s really no reason why we shouldn’t be able to cruise to the Finals this year.
