Report: Mankins will sign tender Tuesday

The 6-1 Patriots are about to get better.

A league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that OG Logan Mankins will report to the Patriots on Tuesday and sign his restricted free-agent tender worth $1.54 million.

Mankins was expected to return later in the season to play the minimum number of games that would grant him an accrued year of service so he could become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

The two-time Pro Bowler had been upset with the Patriots for not offering him the long-term contract he was looking for.

The Pats have the best record in the league and allowed zero sacks in Sunday's win over the Vikings.

The way we see it

This is a huge boost to a team that is finding ways to win, despite a lackluster defense. Mankins is a solid run blocker, which should help a rushing attack that came alive against the Vikings. It's unsure, however, when Mankins will be ready to play and what changes will be made to get him on the field. OG Dan Connolly has played well as his replacement this season at left guard, although he was pulled in the second half of the Pats' Week Seven game against the Chargers.
