Week Six fantasy tips: WRs

The return of QB Ben Roethlisberger enhances the value of speedy WR Mike Wallace, who is gaining an eye-popping 23.4 yards per reception this season. Wallace draws a Cleveland secondary that has given up a TD pass of at least 27 yards in four of five games this season.

With star CB Charles Woodson likely to be covering Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall, WR Davone Bess could have a big game against a depleted Packers secondary. When the Patriots worked to take Marshall out of the game in Week Four, QB Chad Henne went to Bess often underneath. One of the best third-down receivers in the league, Bess totaled 8-96-1 and led the Dolphins with 11 targets against the Pats. If the Packers game-plan against Marshall, Henne will not hesitate to get Bess the ball in open space.

Daily observers of the Rams agree that the season-ending loss of WR Mark Clayton is a real killer, considering that he and gutsy Danny Amendola (12-95 receiving last week) have been the only wideouts rookie QB Sam Bradford has been able to trust. With Clayton out of the mix for better or worse, the receiver who will get the first crack at becoming the Rams' new starting flanker is rookie Mardy Gilyard, although both Brandon Gibson and Laurent Robinson — and possibly newly promoted Danario Alexander — could be factors. With so many different players in the mix, it's probably a good bet to steer clear of any of them for fantasy purposes — at least for now.

Don't give up on Packers WR Greg Jennings just yet as a fantasy force, even though he had only two catches for third week in a row in the Week Five loss to the Redskins. With Jennings apparently venting his frustrations in the middle of this week, a concerted effort to get him the ball more could be in the works for this Sunday against Miami, especially with TE Jermichael Finley out of the mix for the foreseeable future. With Finley out of the lineup, it's quite possible the Packers will return to the quick passing game that worked so well in 2007 and '08 before Finley's emergence — a style that suited Jennings quite well more often than not.

With Seahawks fresh off their bye week, it appears recently acquired WR Brandon Stokley has wasted no time becoming a primary receiving weapon. Unlike recently traded WR Deion Branch, who seemingly took forever to get his act together in the Seattle offense, Stokley was an immediate hit in his first game as a Seahawk, getting targeted for eight passes and catching four of them, which tied for the most on the team against the Rams in Week Four. With Branch gone, both Deon Butler, who has taken over the starting flanker job for now, and rookie Golden Tate could get more receiving opportunities for the Seahawks.

With WR Brandon Lloyd likely drawing the coverage of CB Antonio Cromartie, WR Eddie Royal should be able to find space against the Jets' 23rd-ranked pass defense. The slot receiver performed well against the Jets as a rookie in 2008, recording five catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, and should be able to take advantage of a banged-up Jets secondary.

Titans WR Kenny Britt caught four passes for 86 yards and a TD in Week Five against a well-regarded Dallas secondary and looks to be rounding back into the form that made him such an exciting prospect as a rookie. Britt and Titans WR Nate Washington (TD catches in both games vs. Jacksonville last season) could have some chances to make plays down the field against the Jaguars in Week Six, with Jacksonville likely wary of RB Chris Johnson, who rushed for a career-high 228 yards and two TDs vs. the Jaguars in the second game between the teams last season.

WR Dez Bryant played in Sunday's loss to the Titans with a stress fracture in his rib and did not practice Wednesday but was expected to be on the field on Thursday. He should be ready to go Sunday against the Vikings but is a bit banged up at this point. Consider this when you opt to put him in your lineup or not.

WR Calvin Johnson has practiced this week but is favoring his injured shoulder, we hear. He also suffered a knee injury against the Rams and will be a game-time decision. This might be the rare week you consider sitting Johnson, even if he plays, especially against the Giants' secondary, which has been mostly lights out this season.

Take your pick of Colts receivers this week against the Redskins' 30th-ranked passing defense. WR Austin Collie (37-446-5) has made the most noise so far this season, but WR Pierre Garcon was targeted 14 times by Peyton Manning last week after missing the previous two games with a hamstring injury. Make sure to check the injury report on Friday — Collie (foot) and Garcon (hamstring) both missed practice on Wednesday, but will likely give it a go Sunday night.
